Since we just celebrated Mothers Day, I thought it was appropriate to just share some of my feeling about being a momma trying to rope and rodeo. Its not easy going roping or to a rodeo by yourself with kids, and sometimes that guilt starts to creep in. Its hard to ask people for help but rodeo people really are like extended family. They make it possible for us parents to not have to give up doing what we love, and maybe that's why rodeo kids really are more mature and responsible then other groups of kids. Their parents don't give up their life and what they enjoy doing, they continue to do it and include their children in it from day one. Without the help of everyone around us to make sure everyone is OK, we wouldn't be able to do what we do.
I remember when I was younger and going to rodeos, I had several friends that had kids and we would literally pass them around while their parents competed and no one batted an eye, people trusted me to hold their kids and I usually took them to the beer stand 🤣. As a mom myself now, I can only imagine how thankful they were that we helped them out because I have been in that situation myself many times and praying someone steps in and helps me. Just because you have kids doesn't mean you should have to give up everything. One thing I love is roping and although I don't go a ton, I would not be able to go if it wasn't for my friends always helping me out. Rodeo families are so different in the way they understand everyone needs helps sometimes and they never hesitate to say get your butt on your horse and go rope, your kids FINE. I have had people that don't even know me, step up and hold my daughter so I can run one quick. There is no better feeling than not even having to ask someone to help you because they can automatically see your in need when your late, dragging a red wagon, leading a horse, toys falling out of the wagon and an ice chest with a kid riding on the top and just step up and don't make you feel bad or guilty.
I am forever grateful for these people. If you ever see a momma in need, offer her a hand or at least a beer. She probably needs both. She will be so thankful and I know she will appreciate it.

This has always been the case with rodeo folks. They are family.
